Didn't you know that dogs have an innate weather forecasting ability? Houston, Texas, has made use of this untapped potential:

Radar The Weather Dog
Radar, a Wheaten terrier mixed-breed adopted from the Houston Humane Society, was 4 months old when he joined KPRC Local 2.
...
Radar will also now spend time each week at the Weather Museum, located at 5104 Caroline, meeting his many weather fans here in Houston, and encouraging people to learn more about the weather.

Is a "weather museum" where they keep really old weather?

There you have it. The guy from New Jersey says there is no reason for any of us to ever get caught in an unexpected Blizzard or White out ever again. No excuse for a ship in the Bering Sea to ever get caught offguard by an unforseen squall. We are all safe! Hooray!
|
Not at all...there will always be ships lost in the Bearing Sea as the captains often ignor weather predictions, safety and common sense in their quest of the almighty dollar....overloaded boats take their toll too. You can warn about weather conditions but you can never account for human stupidity and greed.

Nephler All greyhounds do not go to loving homes. Do some research. I had thought the same. I was wrong. These dogs only race for a few years and new ones are constantly being bred. Homes are not available for all of them and the burden on rescue groups is heavy. Awful cases are cited. The owner goes "out of business" and just leaves the dogs in their cages (not kennels) at the track, for example. Poor performers and those that are past five are on the block unless a rescue gets to them.
And some, particularly those not on the premium circuit, can be cooped up all the time unless they are racing or training, living miserable pathetic lives.

What's up with the attack on PETA. Instead of assessing the responsibility for the freezing to death of loyal loving dogs you place your ire against PETA? So maybe they are over the top sometimes. They do good work often.
Are they worse than those who exploit and abuse defenseless sled dogs?
If the Idiatrod is a humane sporting event it should welcome, and you should as well, the observations of humane groups. When there are problems they need to be addressed and if none exist that needs to be confirmed.
|
The problem with your so called "Humane Groups" is that all they are is attention hounds. They are worried about fund raising and that's it. There was already an investigation in the works, but they had to get their names in the headlines again. If it were up to them we would be munching on Tofu and petting the fish and calling them Cuddles. I'm getting so dam tired of a minority of these loons telling everyone what they should be doing. God I can't wait for fishing season. Here kitty, kitty.

Seriously, though, how were they supposed to "suspend the race"?

In my opinion, it is YOU who is trying to insult the intelligence of those posters here who LIVE IN ALASKA - Who ACTUALLY experience Alaska weather. Who have seen, REGARDLESS OF WHAT WAS PREDICTED, the weather change 180 degrees in hours.
IMO - you owe those posters here, who actually "live it", and apology.

The concept of a check point is to determine if someone is late/lost/missing or give warnings....if they are too far apart to serve that purpose what good are they ? Your making this sound like a bigger management clusterf**k that originally imagined.
