Omen and Maynard, the two dogs that died late this week in the Iditarod, had fluid in their lungs, race marshal Mark Nordman reported Saturday.
Necropsies showed that both dogs had pulmonary edema, possibly because cardiac abnormalities prevented their hearts from moving fluid out of their lungs. Further tests are pending, Nordman reported

There, shows the state is doing as it should...no need for PETA.

It's okay. I understand.

you missed it...i would attempt to save both at the same time as there is no way to logically choose given the information as general as the statement gives.

I have a son-in-law from Ecuador, where they raise and eat guinea pigs (cuy on a stick)...was going to get him a couple for his birthday one year as a joke, but changed my mind...

I do not equate a dog's life as more valuable than, or even the same value as, a human life. Unless I lived in the lesser-48. Then a dog's life, even a starving rabid stray, would be far more valuable to me than any lesser-48er.

It's as simple as this...according to you, anyone who doesn't understand how you could love your dog as much as your child isn't a true animal lover.
Again, it would be pure instinct for most parents to fling themselves in front of a train to save their child.
I don't think it would be so for most animal lovers, sorry.
And the question I posted wasn't a choice...either save you child or your dog. I wanted to know how many animal lovers would fling, whether they have children or not.
If someone would choose to fling, such as Neph, I wouldn't hold it against him at all.

ahhh but it would be for many people including myself and husband....pure instinct to fling ourselves in front of a train to save our animals as it would be pure instinct to fling ourselves in front of the train for our children. We chose to take on their lives be a child or animal to care for, protect and nurture their lives.

Then fling away. I'm not sure how many people would actually fling for their pets, but I just don't think it's instinctual in the human race to do so--though protecting something you love is an instinct, I suppose. I just don't believe that most people would do so with their lives.
