Ketchikan has way outgrown Ketchikan and thanks to that bridge to nowhere it's gonna get nothing but worse. I used to enjoy going there many years ago to shop and hang out with the locals at the Pioneer Bar but not anymore. Yuppies have taken over! Traffic is horrible, in summer the locals don't even bother going to town because of the hoards of tourists and trinket shops owned, operated and stocked with junk from China by the big cruise ships. They take over the whole town. In winter the shops are locked and boarded up, making everything lonely and desolate looking, but at least the locals can get to Tongass Supply now that the tourists have left. For me it's too noisy and crowded but, then again, I live in an island town of 1,000 happy peaceful souls. No crowds. No noise. No junk shops. Just Alaska
Oh yeah, and yes, it rains a lot in Ketchikan....sideways.
Gosh, I really didn't mean to sound so negative. I really do hope you like it there. I know nothing about housing there but my guess is it's going to be hard to come by and expensive.

I listed the link to all 3 real estate agencies. I could spill the beans on the bad ones but I don't think that's allowed in a public forum...

I lived there for about 7 years. I was raised there. From what I remember, it was extremely rainy all the time, it's small town, lots of bears, from when I lived there, you had to take a ferry to get to the plane. I don't remember much.

i think they accumulate 160 inches of rain per year. Very little snow, but there's snow on the mountain tops. Temperature is warm in the Winter compared to the interior. It's a beautiful place of course. Lots of wildlife too. Mountains, forests, offshore islands, water everywhere- it's something most can only see on a postcard. Get some good rain gear- if you don't mind the rain, I'm pretty sure you'll fall in love with the place. Kechikan is full of friendly, helpful, and talented people who give it a wonderful sense of community.

We usually get a little snow. This winter it hasn't stopped snowing. Feet, inches, yards whatever you want to call it. Valdez needs this snow not Ketchikan.
