I needed a new charging cord and got lucky...someone just had one laying around. For the future check out used stores and private repair shops.

are doggy doors used commonly in Alaska, or would there be any contraindications to using them due to the weather? i cant imagine my dogs not having a doggy door to go out whenever they want to

We had one out of the garage to a fenced area. Could let the dogs out to the garage, then they could come and go from there. Didn't use it much though, it was easier just to let them out the back door.

You don't want your dogs going out alone unless you have a fenced in area and then I'd still watch them since your dogs are smaller.

And it would be much better to use the proper 'charger' by apple for a remote doggie door; THERE'S AN APP FOR THAT!

It's not "contraindicated" although I don't know that an unnecessary hole in the house is a great idea considering how much heating oil and/or wood it already takes to keep a house warm here. I don't know anyone who has one. Plus, who knows what critters might use the doggy door, lol.

Personally I don't let my dog out unsupervised. Too many things around that would like to eat and/or stomp on her.

I've known one family here in Anchorage who had a doggy door. They had a fenced yard and fairly large dogs. They also had a panel that could be slid into the frame of the door to keep the dogs in when they wanted to, and also keep other critters out.

Doggy doors are convenient, but I can think of a whole lot of reasons why they might not be a good idea up here, particularly outside the city.
