Default Drilling for gas on the Tanana Valley Flats

Well after years of drilling exploratory wells and doing seismic work all over the flats, it seems that they are finely starting to drill for gas in the Tanana Valley Flats where gas reserves should be pretty sizable.

When I was a kid, my dad worked for one of the oil companies that did drilling in the area in the late 60's and early 70's. The data they had showed a large gas and oil deposit in that area, but they didn't do anything with it. A few years ago, another company did seismic work in the area and now they appear to be drilling for real.

They put an ice road across the Nenana River and are hauling gravel for the drilling pad and so forth. The gas would run up the Alaska RR right of way and to Fairbanks which would lower the O2 emissions from all the oil heat since gas is cleaner and cheaper. Which has been a long time in coming!

There is also some that don't want to develop the gas so it may still be an No Go too.

But today I drove out across the river and took some photos.

Will do some updates as I run across them...

Rance, I hear you're Richard's fair haired boy. And I haven't heard any rumbles from the folks upstairs yet.

I don't know about that Mal! I see you more than I do the folks up-stairs!

Still not sure what will happen come July...we've got a handfull of rumors floating around here...cold stack, warm stack, go to BP for the summer, stay here and work...just don't know. And not even sure I would get to go with the rig if it did go to BP for the summer.

I'm just happy to see there is a potential for some work out there.

Well they are shutting down on Wed., seems they haven't gotten the permit for the last area for the pad. Lot of money spent so far for going nowhere quickly... The Drilling rig was suppose to start showing up from the slope, but so far not a stick of anything is here.

They don't have much time left before the ice bridge goes out, which is normally about three weeks from now.
