You made it!

Sounds like my trip to WI from TX last year... 3 kids (two of whom are autistic) and a blown transmission in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere.....

Congratulations!!!! I can't wait for our turn.

And yes.. I had thought that AK would be much more pet-friendly, even in rentals.

Someone here pointed out that we should look into buying even though I was pretty sure that we couldn't afford a shack up there much less a 3br, but like s/he said- we're going to ask the bank and see what they say. Never know.. worst that could happen is they run our credit and it drops a few points just from their looking at it.

Welcome to Alaska and wow what a journey, we did it in the summer and would not have travelled some of those passes in the rain let lone the snow.

Happy you made it, maybe we can arrange a lunch or dinner date with Cori, Dawn and Stephanie ... what do you think ladies ?

Default Hooray you made it

It's been off and on chaos for travelers ever since Redoubt blew so you're lucky to have slipped right through.
Congrats on finding a nice place in Palmer.
If you like the scenery around the MatValley you're in for a treat when you take a drive to the Kenai Peninsula. I remember how I was floored my first time with the scenery along Turnagain Arm, through the pass, and then into Kenai and finally the view of Kachemak Bay in Homer.

You might want to wait on that until you're closer to moving/buying. What you don't want to happen is check now and find you're qualified and then apply later and find you're denied because of too many credit checks over the period. They ignore multiple checks over a 30 day period, because they assume you're shopping for loans for the same thing. Over that period, they might think you were for a car loan and a house loan.

Well.. we just got a new(ish) truck, so there's a bunch of checks on there for that (that we didn't authorize.. the dealership just did it and we ended up paying them cash from a secured loan from our parents).

We were going to start the craziness once we got there, unless we find a great place to rent before then through online listings, because I'd rather rent for a while first while looking around than be rushed into buying because we can't stay in billeting on base any more.

You are so right Mal, we do enjoy our "valley"! I look forward to welcoming Saucy's clan in person........it is so cool to meet folks from the boards after posting to them from the lower 48. For all the risks and cautions in using the internet, it has been a blessing for us!
