housing availability in Kenai?
I am moving to Kenai in August (if I get the job I'm interviewing for).
I checked craigslist, and the peninsulaclarion web page, which didn't have much. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.
I just need a one-bedroom, furnished apartment that allows pets. Everything I'm seeing is unfurnished, and most are expensive 3 or 4 bedroom homes for rent.
Help?

Also check Alaskaslist.com, and where Kenai is such a small area, you may have to expand your horizons maybe to Soldotna or outside of town to find something. Even if working in town, it stretches so you will probably need a vehicle. I think you are also checking too early, as with tourist time fast approaching. Most places we found here rented with maybe one month notice or vacant at the time. I just glanced at the paper and saw 1 BR/2BR in the 600 to 700 range, with 1 allowing cats. If says no pets, you can call and ask depending on what the pet is, but chances are if you are face to face with someone here you have a better chance. At the end of August, the summer tourist rentals will start to open. You may have to consider something else until that time happens. Also, you may want to look at unfurnished. Furniture via tradio, craigslist, alaskalist, and garage sales, second-hand stores is easy to come by and would probably be cheaper in the long run, plus if you move or want new, you can re-sell and not be out much or make something on it...

Thank you for the tips. Sounds like finding housing will be a stressful experience
Forgot about tourist season. Ugh.
Are there any apartment complexes in Kenai?

There are a few that I know of, so am sure there are more...also duplexes, etc... It won't be that stressful, but probably easier if you are here rather than away, or at least closer to the time you will be here. I feel meeting someone face-to-face is a big plus in getting what you need.

I'll be in the Anchorage area for a couple days in 2 weeks.. not sure if looking around then would help, but I'll try if I can get out there.

I think it would be way too early, unless you just want to look the area over. I think a lot of renting of apartments at least is on a month-to-month basis as they always seem to come up about 30 days before empty or already empty...

well id be willing to start paying rent in june, even though I won't get there until August, if I could secure a good place and not have to worry about it over the summer. But going at the end of April, that would still be over 30 days away! ah well.. no point in stressing over it now, I don't even have the job yet
