Aucha Kameroff writes from Kotzebue:
Two-year-old, Steven Hunter Kameroff, son of Frank Stephan Kameroff and Fannie Downey, Grandson of Aucha Kameroff and Grace Downey -- all of Kotzebue -- shoots his first rabbit and ptarmigan while hunting with his paternal Grandmother, Aucha Kameroff and Uncle John Kameroff along the Noatak River on Saturday. Young Steven shot the rabbit with the aid of his Grandmother using a 20 gauge shotgun, and his ptarmingan with his father's chipmunk 22 rifle.
Young Steven's first rabbit and ptarmigan will be given to elders in Kotzebue to honor him following a long tradition in Yup'ik and Inupiaq culture. Steven's grandmother plans to honor him further with a potluck and passing of gifts.

I got my first rabbit at age 8 with a 12-gauge, but that included cleaning and skinning the critter. My folks cooked it, but I had to do everything else.

Default never shot a rabbit

But I did get a lot of wild hairs when I was younger. Lucky I made it through them days.
