How totally beautiful she is! Makes me want to weep for her. Thank you for the link.

She reminds me of the things my adopted Aleut mother used to tell me of when her villiage of St. George was taken over by the military during WW2 and they were interned here on the beaches of Southeast. It was horrible, many died. But the things she missed most were the same things this woman talks of. And, they were terrified of the forests. If you ever get the chance, find the book titled "When the Wind Was a River" There aren't many copies but it's quite an eye-opener, an amazing part of US history that most people aren't aware of.

She did a very excellent job of trying to describe her feelings, and made you feel how she was being pulled, and is trying to adapt to being two different people in one mind...I will try and find that book for sure. Here is another link from the same page with the first picture being Warpt's gramma, and in the third from the bottom...Rural Alaska blog: The Village : Bethel: Three days of dance | adn.com The girl's headpiece in the last picture is very similar to what Fierce, our Russian friend had posted...

Slaves of the Harvest deals specifically with the Pribilof Islands. There is no publisher or author on the book, but it is definitely a professionally printed book, funded by the Tana corporation. The level of historical detail is amazing, and mostly unknown, even in Alaska.
