1 .. if you own the land you are fishing on do you still need a license?
2 .. I saw where Warpt had posted that with a DUI you would never get to drive through Canada. Does it matter if it was 12 years ago? If the drive is a most do, how then would i go about it? Seen other sources say if you pay them 500 dollars they let yah?

Its strange that Canadians can get DUIs & still be allowed to drive in their country. I wonder if that rule will go away with the advent of the NAU? For now I'd say take the ferry.

I think you still need a license since a lake or river would be considered a public waterway. If it's a private stocked pond, then no license needed.

As for the DUI, you can find out about rehabilitation here:

Rehabilitation For Persons Who Are Inadmissible to Canada Because of Past Criminal Activity

On this link, there's a table that indicated you're rehabilitated after 10 years after completing your sentence. If it's 5 years past, then you can apply for rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation For Persons Who Are Inadmissible to Canada Because of Past Criminal Activity (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5312E3.asp - broken link)

Unless you have the paperwork, it sounds like the border agent has the final say on whether you can cross.

It's a money making scam for Canada!! gives them the right to flex their muscles depending on the "guard" on duty!!
