In high winds I have been taught not to use full flaps so you can fly a faster approach.

"56" Tripacer is what we had, and that puppy was even hard to stall ( )...it just floats and easy to control, very good beginner plane IMO, if we 'had' to buy a plane again, that would probably be it, unless man-guy gets his lottery plane...not happenin'

Suprised you think a tri pacer floats. Some people call it a flying brick. Your's might have been a modified pacer with longer wings.
I like em though. Good tough plane. Come down with flaps, lose the flaps at touchdown and you are stuck to the ground.

Not modified (I don't think) I was passenger, but floated through the air (some not so nice), and you are right on the landing...

Bigger is better My buddies are assisting in total rebuild of B-17 Flying Fortress... two weeks from now I will volunteer with Collings Foundation when their Wings of Freedom tour visits Chicago (actually one of Chicagoland stops at Chicago Executive Airport Wings of Freedom Schedule - The Collings Foundation ). Awesome real planes that real men flew on
But they also own an F-4 jet. Actually two! One flies one is for spare parts. Got them by act of Congress too, much to Air Force's dismay hehe. Saw it fly last weekend at Thunder Over Michigan.

I had a 1949 four place PA-16, which was the first of the Tri-Pacer line. It was called the "Clipper" until PanAm sued them over the name because they had the "China Clipper". The next year it was called the "Pacer".
It had no flaps, a 108 HP engine (mine had been upgraded to 135 HP), there were duel sticks to climb over instead of yokes. Had a useful load new of about 800 lbs.
Was ok in the air, but you had to dance on the pedals all the way to park!
If you chopped the power it would appear to "cease to fly", and appeared to be on a dive bomb run to the passengers when the nose dropped over to keep up the airspeed.
Didn't really care for it in general, bought a Citabria 7ECA after that and even though that model had no flaps either, it was a joy to fly! Wouldn't ever concider another "Pacer" line, unless it was free... Then I would sell it!
