The reason for this is that it is.. "your grave" meaning (anyone who goes near this spot). it is very thin, dangerously so. It is a warning in the simplest of terms. stay away !

This ice is 'tested' constantly by people walking around with 'pokes'. and this is just way to thin, stay away, notice the high marker ?? so it can be seen.. from great distances.

I dare speak the truth when I say, anyone can go down to the road on land and step out onto that ice. The only way to get out to any of the camp sites, you must be a member of a crew. People can't just jump on their machines and arrive and say hi ! Unless you are invited or have participated with that crew such as AQHA has in the past. He is very well respected by the Brower family and it is huge !!

I for one think this has been a very educational thread Jess. Thank you for all of the beautiful pictures you have posted here. I have no plans to ever make it out to the ice but sincerely appreciate seeing it through your lens
Thank you and God Bless!

I really like the pictures and what not. My only questions are when did Eugene Brower get fat and old? He's sure not the young cuss I remember.

Some of you might remember Will Rogers from the early 1900's. He died in a plane crash down the beach from Barrow. He and Wiley Post were coming to Barrow to meet Charlie Brower when they crashed. Charlie Brower is the Grandfather of Eugene and some of the other Brower Captains. I saw a picture that showed Charlie standing over Will Rogers body before they brought him back to town. I don't recall what year that was, about 1937 or so I think.

Yes I remember that photograph, I forget where I saw it. I have a photograph of part of the wing section. and of course the monument here in town beside our store.
