Update:
I have been informed, during a very serious meeting.. .. of considerable length. I will NOT BE ALLOWED -.. .. to post photographs videos & text of one sacred portion of the hunt.
I am allowed to bring you, into the umiaq with images- videos and text, I can photograph and share with you, EVERYTHING. - start - finish !!
Everything up to - Everything after - I can post / share with photos - text- videos. The actual 'sacrifice', the gift', the strike. The captains are very serious about this. (ALL OF THEM). This is a sacred whale hunt. Respect must be first & formost.
I AM ALLOWED TO PHOTOGRAPH, MAKE VIDEOS - OF EVERYTHING - I have been asked not to share the "Gift". based on the negative aspects that might ensue !!
to quote a very respected member: "This is a political football and nobody can be trusted !!"
Many important people in Barrow & other villages are extremely upset. |

Polar bears have been sighted in our area and in other areas, there are many of them out here. Time to go hunting said Shawn .. He wants his first polar bear !!

Why is the guy in the back carrying an evil black assault rifle???? I thought someone else said no one carried firearms in Barrow.

There are more firearms up here than people !! The same is true in any village above the arctic circle.

The images speak for themselves !! they tell the story much better than 1,000s of words.
Hungry?? .. .. time to cook ( a seal) !! I will spare you the step by step butchering process (for the weak and squeemish) - just pretend your looking at 'chicken ' "chicken of the sea" !!
Intestines, (boiled) taste like gum with no flavor. meat and other organs, fried or boiled. - Fresh food, fresh delicous beverages of many types, coffee ? Unleaded or diesel is how it is prepared and spoken of. weak coffee is unleaded - diesel is thick (like mud) !
Zacharia said to the young members of the crew - See that umiaq ? do you know when the last time those skins were changed ?? The crew was silent as he smiled and said.. 12 years ago. them seams are getting ready to pop, so when your paddling and you see some of these seams pop open, start swiming, .. .. if you know how !! Huge laughter erupted as some of the new younger members do not know if he is serious or not. the look of fear on their faces was priceless !!
