It is the number of passengers. The plane going to Pittsburgh will be only half full, so they have to make up for it by charging almost as much for the full plane to Juneau.

This is definitely going to result in late flights. In addition to the people trying to cram overstuffed luggage into the overhead compartments, there are the other people who think that three or four gym bags/back packs/huge shopping bags don't count as luggage. They are (at least once in DC) being told to consolidate or check the bags. Not a pretty sight.

lol it drives me crazy when you see these people trying to shove this suitcase that you know won't fit into an overhead, meanwhile crushing the bags of other passengers and holding up the plane.

This is the bag I used on a backpack trip to Europe last summer, it's the only way to go!
