Since I've visited Nome during the Summer months, all the info is somewhat secondhand. The people were very friendly but I am told U can freeze your hind end off during the winter. Summer time was great! Actually, U probably will find a number of threads on Nome if U scroll back a little

Hi Jennifer,

Do you plan to move to Nome, or just curious? My wife and I lived there from 1994 to 2000. If you just want information, just get on a search engine and type in Nome Nugget, the local newspaper, and see what goes on. Of course, you can get on the website
http://www.city-data.com/city/Nome-Alaska.html. I always just go on Webcrawler and type in 'detailed profile on _______ (whaterver city and state you want), but you probably already know that.

I've been to Nome a few times, but just short visits. It's located right on the edge of the ocean. Surrounding terrain is relatively flat...some rolling hills. You can still pan for gold on the beach, like the old-timers did a century ago. It can get cold and windy there in the winter.

Employment be it paid or volunteer work is plentiful. The problem is finding housing. I've been to Nome summer and winter. I like it. Small town, no traffic jams and friendly people. You should start reading the online edition of the Nome Nugget. That's the weekly newspaper. You'll mainly find jobs listed on the State of Alaska Jobs site. TSA seems to always be hiring people. Also with the build up of mining jobs those are plentiful. Housing is the problem. Be creative.
