Its an exerpt from a cruise newsletter I get.
Quote:
Citing the rising costs of doing business in Alaska, four major cruise lines -- Princess, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian -- have announced plans to reduce capacity in the state in 2010.
So there will be fewer ships charging more.

Judging by the title I was expecting a picture of you wearing nothing but a towel, this is disappointment at its finest.

I do have pics of myself with nothing but a banner if those would be more pleasing?

Yes...the reduction of the fleet of floating food bins is certainly welcome news.

It makes me happy too. I know first hand what the big tourism industry will do to a state, and those cruise ship corporations make the skiing/resort industry in VT look nice in comparison...And you really don't want to rely on tourism for your economy, it'll eventually destroy you. I complain about all the old hippies and socialists who invaded Vermont in the 60's and 70's but really, the worst thing to hit this state was tourism, which brought in wealthy individuals from NY, MA, etc., who buy up real estate for seasonal vacation homes, pricing locals out of the market, and taxing others out of their homes by the increased values...the reason I could never afford to "homestead" in VT even if I wanted to...God help any community that ever gets "discovered"...

I agree. Just looking at the prices of real estate in Southeast makes me cringe.

this is true of most all states now...in Mass we complain aobut the NY and Conn people buying land and house at high prices. The south, Georgia, Tenn, S. Carolina and N. Carolina, Virginia are complaining about all the northerners moving down and driving up prices. Same in Alaska...it is life!
