Pig Flu
So I know this has probably been beaten to death on the news but I dont have cable so whatever. Anyhow I was curious what the situation is in people's individual villages or sections of Alaska. I know that just recently it was elevated to a level five out of six on some made up government scale.
So are there any contigency plans for where you are at right now? Are people freaking out or is it business as usual? Do you like pancakes?
Right now in Kodiak things appear to be normal but tomorrow I know there is some type of town meeting to discuss the subject. I believe something to the effect of shutting down the airliners (Era/Alaska) may be in store right around the corner to isolate us from the mainland should the flu reach Anchorage. Either way I'm not very worried, its kill ratio is like 5% or something of all the known cases...not even counting all the unknowns who just got mildly ill then recovered but were never tested. I have suspicions that this entire thing was made up by stockholders who have large stakes in Roche and the other company who has a drug inhibitor for flu viruses. Brb, buying some stock in Roche.

The conspiracy theory, eh?
It seems to me the deaths in Mexico were and are due to the persons being perheaps malnutritioned.
That is hope for people who are in good shape. But people with aids might suffer worse. And infants, elderly.
For what I know, I might have had it last month. Really, I've been mentioning to friends that I didn't have a sore throat or cold or flu in like, two years. And than this weird flu got me. Weird, because it was different than the "usual". And my daughter who works in a hospital was somewhat sick just before that. Well it was over in about a week or so except for my sinuses infected a while longer.

Pig Flu?????? Pig Flew???? Pigs don't fly, except, thick cut pork chops will fly off of the table, as will a well seasoned pork loin roast- Yummmm. AND.....let's not forget thick cut bacon. On second thought, sometimes pig does fly.

I like sourdough pancakes with blueberry syrup.
I've also decided I'm not working for the Wrangell Jet Boat association this summer taking tourists to see the sights if this thing continues. First cruise ship isn't due here until early June so there's time to wait & see. Don't think I'll feel too safe riding in an enclosed boat with a bunch of world travellers tho.

The ones with the coa-thanger antennai work better...more directional against attack, I've been told.
And better yet: the ones with the little plastic spinning propellor on top...
