Default I will spend my Winter in Alaska next year

Well, Guys and Dolls,
We've just fiinish paying for a lot and so, now we are packing and preparing to move some equipment and personal goods to store up your way. We don't think we can afford to build this year but, hopefully, next year. You guys have any advice? Even though I use "we", it is really only me. Dear wife wish to stay close to the kids here in S. Ca. But, she will visit me.

You said you bought a "lot", have you seen it? Many of the lots are trash, they sell on the Internet at inflated prices and have no access. Even the State sells land that isn't fit to build on or can be gotten to without a boat or plane.

About where is this land and maybe someone on here can tell you about it if you haven't seen it in person.

Many people buy land in Alaska and never set foot on it until after the ink has dried, they were sorely sorry for not heeding the most important note on buying land in Alaska... "Set foot on it first"

I've seen this lot but in the snow of Feb 09. Of course, I've looked in the area for the last 3 years before finally committing. I will soon find out whether it is overprice or of poor quality or both. All the neighbors, who have since built, seem to be satisfied w/their respective lots. This place is in the City of Haines.

You think there are dishonest people in AK? I thought all you guys are the greatest!

Haines is more of a gravel basin so you should be fine.

Not so much the "Alaskans" it is out of state speculators that buy trash land and resell it to out of staters that don't have a clue. Then they are told so much BS about the property and when they see it it is muskeg and good for nothing but moose grazing...

Warpt', Is that the station/garage across the street from the sign place? I am hopeful to stay overnight there before continuing on. I've stayed there nearly every year as I passed thru. Really nice people.

About three hours South of Watson Lake (150 miles) is Laird Hot Springs, stay there instead and go soak in the hot water, the trip isn't complete unless you have been there on each trip by! There is a hotel across the highway from there too... a couple I guess now.
