I think that the foreign students who come here to work are the absolute best.
During my first summer working for a tourism company, most of my assistants were foreign culinary students. They rocked. it makes me smile just thinking about them; thanks for the post. My son was in Turkey a year ago at this time; he saw the eclipse there on March 29, I believe. |

I work with alot of...let me say "foreigners" on the slope...and have worked with many over the years commercial fishing. I have yet to meet one I did not like. It was great to sit and talk about life where they come from...and answer questions about Alaska.

I, too, have had some great experiences here with "foreigners"...had some foreign exchange students come here last year and they were enthralled with the wildlife/etc...it was a genuine treat to show off my bit of Alaska and share info with them. They were so grateful for the info and the natural beauty; I think the coolest thing was going on a boat with one German friend of my dad's and seeing whales up close; she was so excited...still makes me smile. But she was a bit put off by the blue float house that's ready to fall into the bay here; she said "people live in there??" LOL...yup!

Tourguy; sorry to double post but...how do you like Wrangell?? What job do you do there--fishing, probably? I may move there or Petersburg; depends on where my job takes me in the next couple years. I do love Southeast AK and want to stay in this region.

I lived in Wrangell and Petersburg back in 1978 and 79. I loved it. And yet I have never been able to get back there. I was fresh out of highschool working for the YCC. Those were the days.

Ha...Rance, I ran YCC crews for 3 seasons here before getting a permanent job, and I will look back at those seasons as some of the best times of my life. And the kids really liked the work; plus I was a pretty cool leader, if I do say so myself. Good program!
