Now that's interesting. Does anyone still make the shale blade ones? Or do old ones pop up for sale? Shale can break so I suppose not many survive for long...

My wife loves the Ulu knife I brought back. She can't wait to move so she can go buy another one made of better metal. I'm pretty sure mine falls into the "crappy" category but she still loves it.

ok, there are a bunch of ulu knife companies out there. One in Eagle River (high end, apparently), a big place in Anchorage on Ship Creek Ave, and others. Do any particular brands have a better reputation?
