Default 2WD Pickup as Transport?

I'm potentially relocating sometime in the next few months from Portland OR. I would be working near the University, and commuting from either central Anchorage, or maybe from Eagle River.

My current primary transport is a 2 wheel drive Tacoma.

If I acquire a set of studded tires, and weigh down the back (with concrete blocks or sandbags) - will I be able to get around reasonably well next winter?

Thanks in advance -

N8

Yes. I've been using 2X for years. Good brand tires are a must.

Thx -

Can you suggest a brand/type and give me an idea what a set would cost? I assume you'd buy all 4?

Anchorage road department does a good job keeping the main city roads clear of deep snow. Along as you have studded tires, your good.

A good all season radial. Some folks have 2 sets of tires for a vehicle. The winter set will have studs.

Just out of curiosity, what is the yearly "start" date and the "end" date pertaining to studs?

Do most have their studded tires mounted on separate rims? I'm assuming so.

Are studs fairly common? Has anybody been complaining about road damage caused by studs like they do in Washington state?

Thanks.

Studs on most roads are from September 15th to May 15th. I think the Dalton is and exception, as you can have Studs driving that year round.

I'd get them mounted on a separate rims, if you have storage space...

I think they are using aluminum studs now that reduce pavement damage.
