Barking, we have never shipped ours via Alaska Air. When my husband was first coming up here years ago he went to a gun shop and had them shipped to a gun shop in Anchorage. You can have your guns shipped to Chimo Guns here in Wasilla. However, it may be more expensive then shipping via air, I don't know about that. Just a thought. BTW, they do charge a fee when you pick them up.

Yup, that and show them that it is not loaded. pretty simple, took my handgun with me when we went up, not a problem. Oh Yeah, and ammo in a different suitcase.

There is absolutely no reason to go through the "transfer" process. It is totally unnecessary. You just create more problems for yourself by doing that.

Because anytime you go through the transfer process you have to fill out a new form 4473. Why go through that hassle when it's not needed? You can ship them airfreight and not have to have more government intervention in your business.

Class III items are a whole different ball of wax. I didn't understand the regulations about transporting them across state lines.

Haven't shipped one in cargo before, but if I work up the nerve to move up there I'll have to. I'm wondering how it needs to be packed to be sent in cargo, whether it needs to be locked in a hard case or if it's okay to put rifles in soft cases inside a box.
Don't think I would ship Cargo nowdays....
