I LOVE Helena...especially the drive from Great Falls to Helena. I can't remember what the name of the flats that go up into the mts on the left hand side of the road JUST before you get to Helena....it's absolutely BREATHTAKING. I never got a photo of that area & could KICK myself! I have wanted to paint it forever!
Maybe I can get my daughter (who still lives in Great Falls) to take some for me...though she's not much of a photographer. Great daugher, poor photographer!
Do you know of the place I mean?
BTW...that's one of the first things I noticed about MT. There are more horses than people! JUST the way I like it! :P

I know the area you are talking but I don't know the name. I tried to buy some investment property near there several years back but it was getting too complicated so I looked elsewhere.

Yes there are a lot of horses in Montana and they're not just field ornaments, we really use them a lot. During the summer I'm in the the saddle every single day. I love that about the state, there are more true horseman in Montana than any place I have been. The horses are what I miss most when I'm in Alaska.

I rope and drag the cattle when needed but to be honest I'm not much of a roper compared to a lot of the guys I've seen. I'm only as good as I have to be I guess. If I get a horse up here to Alaska I'd like to spend the winter getting better on the rope, maybe see if they have any roping clubs or anything, that would be the way to improve my skills.
