There were a few times it was colder in Minneapolis than it was in my community this winter. And I'm on the peninsula south of Anchorage.

Normally in Alaska when we are in the "Cold" part of winter, the Eastern Seaboard of the Lower 48 States gets mild winters. But when they get the Cold coming down from the Arctic, we get some really nice weather. It is neat to go from -50 to plus 30, makes everyone want to run around in Shorts and T Shirts. You don't think about it, but that is an 80 degree rise in temps and feels really warm after a cold snap.
But much of Southeast Alaska by the Coast is a lot warmer than the rest of Alaska, but they do get snow, sleet, rain, and more rain mixed with snow and sleet...
The temps down that far South are in the teen's during winter +-.
I like the winters because there is not one bug around that wants to suck your blood. Snow machines open up the entire State for travel and the Northern Lights are the best show on the planet when near a clear sky by you.

The whole state is colder than hell ten months out of the year. It was -97 on POW just two weeks ago.

Yeah, we used them as "Ninja" stars when I was a kid and tried to stick them in the trees...
Most of the time though, they just shattered in the cold....

That and that infamous gang of penguins that roam the state of which Nephler is the kingpin of. We think we finally know where their compound is.

We've been onto Nephler and his aptenodytes forsteri la cosa nostra for a number of years now. We have a couple of squealers headed straight for the witness protection program once they've commenced finking out their capo.
Do you recall the penguin who ended up on the fishing vessel of POW several years ago? That was one of Nephler's thugs in an escape attempt gone bad. This was when it was first brought to our attention.
