My Remington 870 is my bird gun. My Mossberg 500 is my camp gun. I think they are both very well made weapons and have no preferences over one or the other.

Bought an 870 years ago, came with a long shot barrel and a shorter one with sights for slugs. Fits in the airplane and camp really well. Haven't had the bird barrel on it for years though.

Really like it!

I've had my 870 for about 15 yrs now....darn good shotgun. Mine has a cylinder bore slug barrel, but it is a 24" after-market barrel made by Mossberg, that I purchased from Cabelas catalog. Yes, Mossberg. On a Remington. Nothing wrong with one company making barrels for another, I guess. I am quite happy with my 12ga "RemBerg" shotgun...
The longer 24" vs the usual 18 1/2" slug barrel, cuts down on muzzle blast considerably. Like from "totally intolerable" to acceptable. Plus the accuracy is somewhat better due to "rifle open sights". I'll never buy a short-barreled shotgun again...
