You guys keep rubbing it in on all the crabs you caught, lol. We're going to go somewhere for sure now. Out in Haines do you have to be on a boat or is there a place we can crab from a dock or shore? And when would you reccommend coming that way?

Default crabbing in Haines

Here in Haines you pretty much have to have a boat, unless you hit a very low "clam" tide and are willing to get pretty muddy! There are some people who rake through the piles of seaweed at low tide to see what turns up, but the larger crabs are usually out deeper so the little one you'd turn up that way aren't "keepers" yet. Last year was outstanding for crab, they seemed to be everywhere. I haven't been out yet this year, I'll let you know how it goes.

Default sick of crab

I probably shouldn't post this here, but the reason we're not crabbing now is that we're pretty much sick of crab. The first year we were here we ate it every weekend, especially after we got a skiff. We even had folks over for crabcakes... big mistake.

When you have friends over, you serve them crab in the shell, so that THEY have to pick the meat. With crabcakes, YOU have to pick all that crab meat all by yourself ahead of time, what a PITA.

Now halibut is a different story. Around here we have to go way out for halibut most of the time. I'm not at ALL sick of halibut.

Hey there,

I grew up in the Puget Sound so I'm used to dungy's and rocks, is Tanner the first cousin to a king crab? I thought they might have been o Pelias but the body design definitely looked more like a king then our opilia.

Great looking crab and mighty tasty!

How much was the average weight? And what was the limit?

Thank you for your time from Central Wyoming!
