Default Advice on Bears on Hatcher's Pass

We are thinking of going hiking on Hatcher's Pass.
Does anyone have info, advice on what one should do to prepare for possible bear confrontations during this month of June?

Pepper spray, maybe some of those tiny bells, sing or talk while walking to make noise. This is the time of year you do not want to startle a sow with cubs on a trail.

Don't worry about bears in Hatcher Pass...bring some pepper spray but you are unlikely to have a bear problem there. Russian River, Troublesome Creek, most any creek with salmon in it are going to have a lot bears. You won't find a lot of bears in Hatcher Pass.

There is always the possibility of running into one but you are more likely to see a bear in lots of other places than Hatcher Pass.

If you are worried about bears in Hatcher pass you are starting to come down with bearanoia. The only cure for that is a SW 500 or a 458 Magnum, or a 50 Cal machine gun.

One caveat...I'm thinking about the Independence Mine side of Hatcher Pass. when you get down in the Willow Creek area in the fall you might find more bears. Then carry a 12 guage loaded with slugs.

Default Thanks!!!

Thanks for all the great advice.
I am not bear a phobic... just that I really do not want my kids to get attacked, nor have them watch as I get attacked.

Just being cautious in a place that I have yet to have lived in very long.

OMG, Thank you for that awesome graphic...

The part about Grizzly dung having bells and pepper spray canisters in it... OMG, it took me till then to realize the humor...? or was it.
lol

Well--you've got quite a few pictures of someone hiking in Hatcher Pass on your website; perhaps you should ask her.

It's a really good blueberry area, by the way...that'll
be later on but don't miss if you can help it.
