I lived in one all winter in Girdwood. I did all the modifications that StarLite9 recommended and it really wasn't that bad. It was cold because I kept the heat low, but I actually enjoyed it. It all depends on your perspective. I had electric hookup and access to a bathroom. I spent about $200 a month to live in it (electric and propane). September and October would be fine in Anchorage. I did it all winter long!

People do it all the time. One thing some people do is to lift it slightly and put it down on bales of straw. That makes a good skirting.

Try to keep the moisture down inside, that will keep the condensation and frost to minimum. It will almost certainly freeze/frost in the coldest corners.

Default better than a tent, anyway

Do-able, and better than a tent, anyway. Keep in mind that if you get heavy snow in October you may be stuck there all year, as most RV parks don't plow in the winter. It's something to get sorted out early on, as you could have a considerable amount of work to clear a path to a plowed street.
