CA is a magnificent place, Granny. You have everything here, the good, the bad, the ugly and the sublime.

I certainly don't want to pay for the ugly, but the good and sublime, I can deal with, would love to visit Napa Valley, Santa Barbara...Maybe...

Exactly, the family values don't fly in my mind, short of parading them and smilin' and winkin'....Big LOL...

We have to do what little we can to insulate ourselves from the impending calamities(cap-and-tax, socialized medicine, card check, etc..) and making sure that our state officials reflect the mindset of most Alaskans is paramount. I hope that Parnell understands that.
Remember your neighbors, fellow residents need to feel the same way, or you are doing what is said not to do, bring the -48 ways with you and expect that to happen...you need to be subtle in explaining ideas to not be the outsider...

I know, I know.

What's going on in Washington right now though is making me sick to my stomach. It seems like they just don't give a crap what people think and are determined to spend us into oblivion. The United States government can't just declare a Chapter 11 and be done with it. Every single last one of us would be completely and totally screwed.

I don't think that the average person realizes just how bad things are getting and the ramifications of this spending orgy. Hyperinflation, the complete devaluation of the dollar, and massive annual interest payments on the national debt are just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm truly sorry if I come off as a bit too strong when discussing what's happening to us but dammit, I have a young daughter, and I don't want her to grow up in a socialist hell-hole. Which is exactly where we are headed.

It's sometimes beneficial to listen to people who have different views. You can sometimes learn new things. I wish our health care system was socialized. I never used to though. I spent a few years living in Australia and the health care we recieved was the same as here in terms of service and technnology, but it was FREE. We spend almost $5000 every 3 months for three people for health insurance. We have never met our deductable of $2500. Australia had two types of hospitals and doctors...government and private. Similar to our school system. If you wish top quality, fast service, good student to teacher ratio, you enroll your children in a private school. It's the same thing with health care in Australia. If you need a major surgury and can't wait a few weeks at a government operated hospital, you can go to a private hospital. You can even buy health insurance soley for private doctors and hospitals. Private doctors and hospitals won't pack their bags and leave...just like private schools haven't picked up their bags and left. There will always be a market for them and because of higher competition, prices for both the insured and uninsured would decline. Proof: Australia and there are many other countries with similar systems that people love.

In the end, you want her to be secure, I totally get that.

We have had our issues with this too, and are now looking at going back way down lower 48 in about a month, to have Jim working for the company he did a while back, but that is pretty much guaranteed, versus this slope thing here and we sit and wait... He now went up for 6 weeks temp....has been 2-1/2 weeks, and he is now talking he may be sent home end of this week...

Good thing is we have figured out how keep our house when we leave, to be able to come back when we retire in a few years, but yes, this economy sucks, but it didn't happen in the last few months since Obama, it has been coming down the road for a while, this is backwash from many years and many administrations ago...

Because I miss mine and just because, I so like that little cutie...

Lol, thanks.

Ouch, that sucks about having to return to the lower-48. The wife and I decided a few weeks ago that this was the place to settle. We figured that if the balloon ever did go up, we'd be better off here. And given what's happening now, it probably will.

I aced every class I ever had in econ and have always been extremely interested in politics. What's happening now is unprecedented and will have long-lasting impacts. Once Obama's socialistic policies become law, they will be incredibly difficult to uproot. There are always too many people looking for something for nothing and don't give a sh*t about personal responsibility.

But, back on topic, Palin wasn't perfect but she sure as hell wasn't Arnie. At least Palin, for the most part, kept the government under control. The Governator, not so much. As I stated previously, I disagree with her decision and think that she will live to regret it.

You know Arnie was a celebrity that got tossed in, I remember Jesse Ventura in MN, now Franken, hope he can pull if off for them....Palin is a wannabee that was voted in, now she bailed, you have to give Arnie credit for the mess he has that was voter created there, he is hangin in there, and went in with a mess that he personally cannot dig out of...

I agree too many people looking for a handout, but that is nothing we can deal with on a personal level, we just have to move forward and hope for the best... I am sure hoping Parnell can do it for us...

I admire your optimism. However, we have never faced a situation where the radical Left has so much power. It was almost always a GOP president and a Democratic Congress or vice versa. Now, the inmates have complete control of the asylum and we will all pay dearly.

God, I hate the fact that the news media has completely and utterly sold out and now are nothing more than cheerleaders for Obama. Never in the entire history of our nation has the Fifth Estate been so corrupt. Unless one does their own research, they'll never find the truth about issues and that is frightening.

Cap-and-tax, socialized health care....none of it is good for the country. Obama lies through his teeth and never gets called on it. European nations have had this for years and many are now trying their damndest to get rid of it.

If it weren't for Washington politicians kowtowing to the lying tree-huggers about ANWR, we would be sitting pretty right now. The nutball enviro-kooks portray the drilling areas as pristine wilderness when the fact of the matter is that it is nothing more than square mile after square mile of barren, frozen tundra. We only need about 1300 acres out of an area the size of South Carolina to drill but these lying a-holes keep us from doing it. It's disgusting.
