Unhappy No Alaska for me, moving to Georgia :(

Well I told you guys me and husbands dream was to move to Alaska. He's got a job and apartment lined up in Georgia, Atlanta at that. We going no later than August, I have to sell this house in Jersey. I thought I would be excited but I'm not. I said so what about Alaska, we aren't going to ever get to Alaska if we go to Georgia. We are going to lose sight of our goal. He said don't go confusing him again. He said if we come up with I guess 5 grand than we can go to Alaska. I'm getting depressed all over again, because I think Georgia is going to be a waist of my time, just like I feel Jersey has. I'm so sad, I won't be joining you guys. Just two weeks ago, we had a map on how to drive up there, now it's just a lost dream again. Guess I'll go mope on over to the Georgia forum. I swear I'm going to start saving money the minute I get down there, even if I keep it a secret. And I'm going to try every avenue to get a job transfer there. I'm not giving up. I'm going to get to Alaska.

Oh hell. Maybe you should consider leaving him behind and coming up here for awhile by yourself. He doesn't sound like much fun anyway.

LOL - I stumbled on this one and wow.

I'm in Atlanta.

Let's see:

Alaska - Trees, Eagles, Critters, clean air, mother nature at her best most of the time.

Atlanta - Crime rate per capita 3 times that of NYC, traffic that takes you an hour to drive 10 miles, more "smog alert" days in the summer than L.A., and ghettos and thousands of shopping centers that replace forests.

Uh.. yeah, sure, I'd pick Atlanta over Alaska, too - toss your dream just for a job! I gotta agree - ditch the guy and marry a bear in Alaska. Sounds more fun. Better yet, send any of the leads he had in Alaska and I'll take one of them... you can have my place here!

Thanks atlantagreg, not giving me much hope, what are you still doing there?
Besides we have family there. I don't know a soul in Alaska (except you nice folks )
and Rainy not ready to ditch the hubby just yet Alaska will happen just not as soon as I thought It will take a whole lot of planning. As for Georgia we know we have a place to stay and a job. With Alaska we fly or drive there then what

Then you spend every waking minute knocking on doors and making calls and find some work. Sometimes starting with a less than desirable job until that something better comes along. Just a factor of life. Nobody said it would be easy. But it does make you appreciate some things later in life. There is alot of different things to do here and come summer work is not hard to find at all. And alot of us here have connections and suggestions as well. Make it a goal to come see us some day. It'll happen.

Rainy is right. Go into Alaska alone and check out the place first if U can afford the trip. Then, if U find a job U or your husband can fit into, twist his arm some more. My wife have refused to travel w/me to Alaska each time I've went north and I've been up there several times now. In another month, I plan to be a semi permanent resident. Semi only because I now must maintain 2 homes. After 50 years of marriage, it is too late to change horse.

I have a good friend in Sterling that does just that RAMFEB31. He's from Georgia. His wife winters there, he winters here, then both go back and forth in the summer. They get along just fine!

Well, at least she make sure I am well fed. She would stock my fridge to the brim and then load some more goodies in all the bins. I think she is glad to be rid of me so she can go on her own trips. We do travel together off and on but mostly off.
