Definitely doable, are you doing all the driving or sharing duties? Calgary to Ft. Nelson should be doable in daylight, we did Edmonton - Ft. Nelson with 2 kids and left at 8am and made it into Ft. Nelson by 6:30pm. If you're on the road by 6-6:30am you should make it no sweat.

FT. Nelson= one expense darn place to spend the night and REALLY no where to eat out at. Maybe cut that day a little short stop before hand in a REAL town and then drive through Ft. Nelson. We paid $185 US for a room there with just 2 double beds in March 08 so not during tourist season, there was another place up the street but it did not look very welcoming so we stayed at the Super 8. The 8 did have a really nice hot tub and indoor pool with a water park water slide so that was nice but it wasn't cheap.

OK here I go finally.... Appreciate any help- like the sooo many of us that ask! Thanks
plan on leaving WA end of month first of August... ending in Seward...stay until firist of Sept...
Plan on camping- sleep in back of the truck/canopy - single gal with dog driving- safe enough eh? Don't know why I am worrying driving/camping alone when down here in 48 do it all the time. Some place new...
.... if I want to stay in a hotel for a break and warm shower- do I need to make reservations or is spur of moment decision a bad idea for getting a room. A basic room shower lock on door all I need. I have the Milepost, Lonely planet, and Alaska Camping Book.
Any advice on where to stop at and where not to? Was thinking of taking i-5 to Prince George to Dease Lake - Dease Lake to Whitehorse- Whitehorse to Tok - Glenn Hiway/Tok cutoff to Anchorage - to Seward...... or do you suggest another route?
First of September roads are usually not snowed in right?

Toad is a great place to eat,really neat to sit down and look at all those hats. Don't eat at Boston Pizza OMG the price will kill you. I seen only 2 other places to eat and both were closed.So I hope you have better luck than we did.

We stayed at the Lake View suites just past the super 8, it was better priced $149 or so and the rooms were great.

WOW they paint a pretty picture maybe it was the time of year but that place didn't look anything like that in real life. To me the whole place seemed run down,like I said maybe it was the time of year,but if we make a trip outside we will plan our trip so that we don't end up there. Heck in this weather I would be more tempted to camp out somewhere,but thats just me I like to camp,guess that is why I don't mind living off the grid and using an outhouse. LOL
