I don't even know how to make the dough! It's like making homemade bread, it's just that you are going to deep fry it instead.

Warpt, I'll learn how to make squaw candy if you learn how to deep fry bread. Got a bunch of subsistence reds to work with.

I love fry bread. Guess I need to get a hold of some friends back at LTBB (Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians) for a good recipe.

or Google a recipe that looks right...then you can all experiment frying bread...hard to mess up...kind of like homemade tortillas...they are thicker than store bought, are more rustic looking as almost impossible to roll round, and can be used as tortillas, pizza rounds (bunch of different toppings) to make your own and throw on grill or in oven...

I had the best burger on the way down here once into AZ on the res...Navajo burger from gas station/store...wonderful and on fry bread with giant smoked jalapeno which I had to peel off as already flavored this 3/4 inch burger about 5 inches in diameter...killer on that fry bread...

Hey all, sorry I haven't replied yet. I've been out of internet for a bit, got moved into our new rental out a farm in Palmer (it's an original colony home that's been remodeled, expanded and spiffed up a bit). I reread the thread and couldn't see a time stated for the gathering. I'm already committed to helping the youth group at our church with an activity in the morning thru about 3pm. If the gathering is going on in the evening I'd like to come, sounds like a lot of good food and fun.

Don't know about in Alaska but my now ex-nephew-in-law (is that what the heck they are when they marry your niece???) Anywho...he is full blood Lakota Indian and when was out had me make fried bread...had to buy "lard" to fry it in as he said no other oil would give it the taste or color.

Hey Quakinator, good to hear from ya again.

We're starting anytime after 12 noon, or when ever people show up.
My guess would be that we would still be here so that you could make it. I'll be sending directions and phone number in the next day or two.
