I agree. I'm also for cutting off limbs of people who get busted stealing and public stonings for other harsh crimes like murder and rape. Our crime rate would drop to about .001 % nationwide in a matter of a couple of weeks.

Singapore is a very safe city for this very reason. Not so much cutting off limbs, but they do have very strict punishments.

For me the recent story about the guy in Anchorage being beaten to death was extremely disturbing. How in the world can someone repeatedly jump from the top of bleachers on a man's head and body? And all of this just for 7$ and a case of beer? I understand that something like this can happen anywhere but what the hell is going on in Anchorage?? Recently there have been daily killings there.

Unfortunately Anchorage is or has become I should say, like any other city. The Frontier City is no more. That story and their actions was very disturbing to the point of making me feel sick of what some people are capable of. After all, his girlfriend was hungry. Give me a break! Something like this calls for the good ole electric chair which Alaska doesn't have.

Unbelievable...Next time I get caught trespassing or breaking into someone's home I'll have to remember to pull out the 'I was only admiring the merchandise' card.

''What are you two buttheads doing in my house''. Too damn funny. I would have used another word(s) but butthead works.

Let's all head down to the bank and "admire" some cash.

Yep, and when that American kid got caught spray painting expensive cars and other damage, he was sentanced to about five lashes... But President Clinton got it reduced to about three...

You do the crime, you pay the time...or lashed if that is what is called for.

That is why it is so safe there.

When I was a kid, I went to Spain for my senior year of high school and a freshman year of College with a group of other kids from Alaska.

At two AM in Madrid, it was safe to run the subways... Franco was still the dictator and his security would shoot a crook as look at them. Crime was very little to say the least.

Now they have a democratic government and lot of crime... go figure...

Hitler and Mussolini made the trains run on time, and had no problem shooting into a crowd to punish one guilty man. Franco was their protege and learned his lessons at their feet after they handed Spain to him in the 30's.

I know that's not the way you meant it but that is the way it came off. It's a shame that freedoms granted allows vandals and hooligans rights, and if I had my druthers, I'd cane them myself. But I spent several weeks in Singapore at various times through the 70's until the 90's. I was always worried about crossing a law I knew nothing about. Chewing gum is forbidden. Spitting is forbidden. There was a t-shirt sold on Bugis Street that had a front logo saying "Singapore is a fine city!" and the obverse side listed various civil crimes and their "fines". $500 fine for chewing gum, etc.

I understood the intent of the law. It still felt restrictive.
