Can't trap bear anymore in Alaska. Can't even use my bear trap in Maine either, they only allow cable devices for bears now. I believe there was a plan to allow snaring of bears in some areas in Alaska to control the population but I don't know if it went through or where. If you're going to trap in Alaska focus on more than beaver. Marten, lynx, wolf, wolverine...all worth trapping even with the fur market drop. I like beaver trapping but if there's something like marten to trap I'd focus on the marten. Beaver is a lot of work.

I have trapped a lot over the years. It's illegal to trap bear except with a special permit in a couple predator reduction areas.
There are lots of beaver. You generally have to chop a hole in the ice that might be a couple feet thick to set your traps. It's a lot of work.
Most of the good places to trap are only accessible by snowmachine or airplane. You need to be prepared for survival in -60 degree weather with no shelter. If you can handle that, you can handle trapping in Alaska.
