hey there,
interesting topic for me. and, to be honest, kind of strange (unexpected) for an outsider.
never been to the lower 48, much less Alaska.
USA is my favorite country though and i will be there sooner or later.
enough of that, i think most everyone here agrees USA is cool (or at least alright). why else would you be here..still?

anyway, enough of the offtopic.
have You guys seen 'Ice Cold Killers' (S04E13) tv show Gangland on History?
its about Anchorage and its gangs.
one of the street level police officer mentions they've identified 100+ different gangs in Anchorage by 2008, i think. (or maybe it was 2006).
most are various Crip sets but there's some "original" gangs also.
in my humble opinion, the documentary showed the gang members as 50%black/50%pacific islander.
i'd say, the documentary is pretty good in terms of depth and facts.
i don't know of course how true all the facts are, being an outsider?
but so far, i can tell, Gangland has been about 80% (imho) on point with their other programs.
its basically a documentary about all the gangs in the America. i don't remember, some episodes might've also included gangs from other continents. anyway, its quality programming, imho.
here's a good place for people who've lived in Anchorage from 1980 (or has followed the local crime news in general) and so on to chime in with their experiences on gang culture and violence in Your city/state over the decades. im talking about AK all over, not just Anchorage. although it was the only city mentioned in the documentary.
according to the Gangland tv episode, the activity reach its peak during the 1980s with the drugs/women trade. most (if not all) of the black gang members were send to AK from CA, namely L.A. (the original Crips/Bloods/many other gangs birthplace).
i'v only seen the documentary once (its available on torrentz though, if anyones interested
