goes to a bunch of -48 "sports" fishermen who've been busted twice in two days for illegal halibut catch. The idjits just keep going back out to fish and the Troopers keep taking it away from it and bringing it to us to hold for the food bank. The Trooper that came by today said he was sure they'd be caught again and he's calling in the feds on the idjits.

I don't know much about sports halibut regs or why the feds would be involved but wth; these idjits are nothing but poachers.

OK I found this on the F&G site that explains it:

Pacific halibut fisheries are managed by the federal
government under international treaty.

The limit is supposed to be 2 per day and these people keep getting caught with hundreds of pounds of it.

So it's federal because of an international treaty. That is really interesting. I wonder what other fish are under international treaty.

He didn't say and I didn't ask....didn't even think about that. This took place before my first real cup of coffee. I'll probably find out more details later. I'm starting to wonder if it's the same idjit who has 400 pounds of subsistence fish in my freezer and who has friends from the lower forty eight visiting. Strange how they wanted them in fish boxes for transport. I guess they'll probably be toast if they try to leave the island with them.

Thanks so much for the link. It's great fun learning about Alaska.

Sorry, but if they turn out to be someone's subsistence fish, they're going straight to the food bank via the cops.
