Hey now. It's not THAT bad. But I would probably hate it if I didn't grow up here. I imagine that's how it works for some Alaskans too.

I lived in California, and yes, it was while I was in the military. But people never made me feel at home like they do here in Alaska. CA folks are probably great if you get involved beyond the over-the-fence conversation, but here, they WANT to know you. Every neighbor is YOUR neighbor. They take an interest in your life and are always there for you.

I can definately vouch for that! We were 'admonished' in other states for our background, but here in AK people WANTED to get to know us! It is going to be a sad day when I leave...

My dh started his own business and Anchorage is a little to small for his line of work. Also, while I am soooooooooo happy here, he never really was (he is a born and bred beach bum! ), so we are relocating from this beautifull state I will always remember and talk about with lots of love. My sons and I will be back every summer for fishing!

Alaska has a reputation for being cold ....and there are plenty of areas inland and in the far north that are mighty cold in the winter but it also has mild areas too .....southeast coast in particular is relatively mild ....average above freezing in winter in some areas ...places like Sitka and Ketchikan ....
