Can you live in a relatively large city, drive for about 10 minutes up into a nearby mountain, and hike for 4 hours and be back by 3 pm. I just did a quick, early trip up to Flattop mountain here in Anchorage. I highly recommend that hike for anyone wanting a birds eye view of the entire city. It was about 50 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. For anyone who has thought about visiting or living in Alaska, do it. Worse case scenario, you decide it is not for you and head home with no regrets. Best case, you have discovered your own paradise.

Theres plenty of places where you can go hiking and get back by early afternoon. Not many where you can head out on a brisk fall morning and pick blueberries while looking out at Denali in the distance!
