Weather... Always cloudy? How long winter?
Homes... Ok to get lots of windows? Best form of heat? (ie; radiant, oil, etc)
Best location/neighborhood for home?

I am surprised you bother to take your time to write a reply, and fyi, we have been up there which is why we are prompted to move, but we're not moving anywhere until researched well ahead of time. Found everyone, until now, to be very obliging and friendly.

elise, your best bet would be for you to get Rance to answer your questions, as he lives closest among the regulars on the board. Weather tends to be a little rainier than a lot of areas. Not knowing what you are comparing it to, I hesitate to comment. Most folks are a little friendlier than Manmountain would have you think at first glance.

Not "always" cloudy. They have clear days just like anywhere else. Winter - basically October through April, with the other 3 seasons crammed into the remaining months!

Absolutely, the more windows the better to let in the gorgeous view!

Anything with a view overlooking Kachemak Bay and the Spit if you can afford it. Homer has always been one of the most picturesque places in Alaska, IMO.

We just spent the weekend in Homer geocaching. Nice hobby cause it forces you to go down streets and other places you would never have gone. Anyway one thing you will notice about Homer is it's lack of "national chain" stores and resturants.

I like Homer. The recreational opportunities were awesome. Nice clean town overall. I also liked the "spit" area. Nice collection of tourist shops, boat docks and stuff. Not the over commercialized tourist trap like Ketchikan.

Default more homer info

We have a place in Seldovia, which is across the bay from Homer, so are in the Homer area several times each year. To try and answer some of your questions:
No natural gas yet in Homer, maybe coming in the near future; home prices compared to my area in Nikiski are much higher, especially if you want a view of the bay and/or acerage. They are no bad places to live in Homer. Weather is a little milder, especially in winter, than further north on the pen., except on the hillside, where there is considerably more snow than down along the water. Summer weather can be absolutely gorgeous! as it was this summer, several cloudy days followed by some days of sunshine, temps in the mid 60's. Homer
is an eclectic community with much cultural emphasis and many artists and other very civic minded people, who make the town not only unique, but very liveable. Hope this helps.
