There is a possibility of my returning to Alaska. How bad is Wasilla now as far as crime, weather, etc? I know it's grown quite a bit from when I was last there in 1997. I like the Palmer area, but there is a great house in the Wasilla area on the water with a private gate on a few acres that we are considering. Also, there are a couple of nice homes in the Palmer area as well we may look at. I heard that the drugs and crime in both towns are about as bad as Anchorage, but that was one person's comment. If anyone has any first hand recent (last 2 years) experience in these two towns, I would appreciate your comments. Thanks.

Yu can see the trooper reports here: http://www.dps.state.ak.us/pio/dispatch/index.asp
You can look at every day of the month and see what goes on n the area. And this is just trooper reports, not the cities.

My boss recently built a house in Harmony Pointe, Palmer and they decided to raise their kiddos there and commute to Anchorage. As far as I know, it is OK: there is crime, but that is all over...

I live in Palmer, and honestly, I couldn't ever live in Anchorage again! Sure there's crime and drugs everywhere, but the pace of life in Palmer/wasilla is just slower! (Okay wasilla drivers are nuts sometimes)
If you got a house in a less populated area, I'd say go for it! I've lived in the Valley for 4 years. |

The Palmer/Wasilla area known as "the valley" is the meth capital of alaska.
Highest burglary rate in the state. Quote:
