In a couple years, I hope to take a road trip & camp in Yellowstone.

Note that Yellowstone was the first designated "national" park not just in America, but in the world. This was a great idea - that a nation could set aside space for preservation and enjoyment of its pristine physical assets. It took men of the calibre of John Muir and Teddy Roosevelt to fully realize this idea in the face of opposition from vested commercial interests.

My local PBS just followed the National Parks with the 2003 documentary Crown of the Continent about Wrangell/St Elias. What an amazing place, it's breathtaking. Hate to admit I knew the name but never really looked into what it was like.

I know, I think it's fabulous they thought ahead. Unfortunately, the ranchers & oil people think otherwise. Sad really.

Warpt in your travels you need to get the National Parks passport stamp book. So everytime you hit a park or national heritage site you get a stamp.

Apparently you can also contact the parks you visited and get stamps retroactively so you don't miss one.
Noted on the site there are a bunch of stamp places in Alaska.
You could hit up a few stamps next time you hit Fairbanks.
