The skeeters will fight to get in, and the bears might have a chuckle. Otherwise, get one or invest in some DEET. which you might want for your other areas anyway...there are some mosquitos that really bite through clothing. I've been bitten through jeans...

We found some lemon and eucalyptus stuff at Fred Meyer that is DEET free and is just as effective. My youngest is allergic to mosquito bites (swells up like an overinflated balloon)

Polar Bear Gifts downtown is a great place to find a variety of gifts and goodies at reasonable prices...

Just think whats worse..wearing a headnet with skeeters all over it, or palmetto bugs all over it.

Really? I'm going to have to look for that! I hate putting DEET on my kids! What's it called? Or the package looks like?

Default Funny....about what mama bearAK said

"If I can give you one tip of advice: do not kill a mosquito! If you do, the rest will come storming over for the funeral! " Quote AKMammabear

I was up there last July went from Seward to Fairbanks and many other places...didnt get bitten the first time...I saw some of the tormenters but they steered clear from me. I am plagued however in Virginia by ticks, chiggers and things that crawl that have me on their mind for a snack.

What ever you decide to buy, buy it if you can, and can tote it around and bring it back home. There were so many things now I wish I had purchased while I was up there. One of my treasures is a $4.00 "mood" ring I bought at Denali,at the hotel trinket shop , that has Alaska on it. I wear it every day, although the "mood " part quit working before I got back home. If you pass something up , you won't find it again.

But buy something that you will always have,or send yourself some smoked salmon back home. I also have a wolf symbol necklace (silver chain with the face of a wolf in silver) that I purchased from a lady originally from Virginia had at her booth. It is very special to me also.

The main thing is have fun, and enjoy every minute.

If you get a chance, go to the Farmers Market in Anchorage on Sat's. Havn't been up in a while, but I found some of the best things there. Also in downtown Anchorage, there was a shop that sold only made in AK.
Need to get back up there.

4th and 5th Avenue in downtown Anchorage have a few good shops. Hit the Saturday market on 3rd. Some good local products there. Excellent joke Alaska postcards at Title Wave on Northern Lights.
