I am a single mother of an 8 year old. Ever since I saw a piece on North Pole, Ak. on the Travel Channel, my dream and goal is to move there in the near future. Do you think we would be disappointed?

I don't know how old you are but that was my dream when I was in my early twenties, but life happened and I could not leave, I have been sorry ever since. If you are going to do it, do it now, live your dream. I hope you have a good trade or profession. More Power to you.

North Pole is not a bad little town. Certainly a little different from the usual. Most of the streets are named on a Christmas theme thingy. Santa Claus House is a definite must on the road from Fairbanks to Delta Junction. Eielsen AFB is a short piece further down the road. It's about 10-12 miles out of Fairbanks and about 100 miles from Delta Junction. Chena Hot Springs is just down the road as well. VERY cold in winter. Schools are alright.

Nows the time to move up. Soon as your kid is out of school. Summer is here and opportunities abound. You'd have the summer to get situated before school starts in the fall.
Though I don't know anyone who lives in North Pole I have family and friends in Fairbanks. I drive through North Pole to get there. Thats where the first McDonalds coming in from my way is! So I always stop. It looks like a nice community. Lots of restaurants in and around that area. Don't think twice. Come on up! |

And if you don't like it you can always look at a different part of the state.

I live here... and despite some of the not-so-great/weird things about AK, it is absolutely a great place to raise kids. There are kids everywhere! Lots of activities, SO much to do. If you two like the outdoors, you would probably be happy here.
I admire ya'! Good Luck! |

If you're into hockey, you're in luck. Its the winter alternative to soccer for the little guys, tons of leagues.
If you try it and don't like it, at least you can say you tried. If you don't, you'll always wonder if you should have. |
