What is the best way to travel to and from the Ferry in Juneau?
Our Bellingham Ferry arrives in Juneau at the ungodly time of 0415 hours, Monday. Are taxis the only way to get into Downtown Juneau? If so, should we book one or would there be sufficient for all Ferry walk-on passengers? Thank you M&T

For that time, taxis are your best bet. Are you staying at a hotel? Most have a shuttle bus that will pick up and drop off at the airport and ferry terminal. Nothing will be open downtown at that time, so I hope you have a reason you need to go there.

Downtown????
When you're alone
And life is making you lonely,
You can always go downtown
When you've got worries,
All the noise and the hurry
Seems to help, I know, downtown

Since the ferry comes into Auke Bay, north of town, you'll need to catch a taxi. And it's a ways into town.

I would wait til it docks, then use the ramp.... The water is a bit cold for a quick boarding and/or going ashore....
Sorry, couldn't resist......
Getting into town is a bit of a ways, you can either catch a ride with a taxi, or ask around on the boat during the trip and someone may give you a lift to the hotel. There is always locals that are going home to Juneau or others waiting to catch a different ferry heading elsewhere and have to spend the night there too.
Ask the Purser when you board for a list of cab companies, buses or other transportation that is normally dockside when you get there. Once you get close to town, if you have a cell phone, you can call the cab or whomever if you still need to.
Good luck.

Taxis are usually waiting right there when the ferries come in. And I agree that if you going to a hotel, definitely check with them about whether they have a shuttle service--most do.

It's approx 20 miles from the ferry terminal to "downtown". The nice thing about the taxis, they will "pool" customers together so the fare can be split up.
From my house to the airport is about 25 bucks, so a taxi from the ferry to downtown would probably be around 40-50 bucks.
