Rural = the "country/countryside"
Remote = far away

A town can be remote and still have a road that goes to it. My argument wasn't that they aren't places of interest, my point was villages are only a small part of Alaska, not the ONLY part as a member implied.

if someone is planning on visiting a bush hub or two, i'd definitely recommend unalakleet over nome, unless said person has a big interest in mining/mining history and gold rushes and whatnot. i haven't been to bethel yet, so i can't say much there, but i do also like dillingham a whole lot. and i've heard that kodiak island is pretty top-notch...

I'd like to visit Nome. I'd love to take a drive on any of the roads out there. Kotzebue is nice, I've been there three times in the winter to race snowmachines, I need to make a summer trip one of these days.

So if we do build the road to Nome, will it then no longer be part of Alaska?

it'll probably take so long to build that road that it'll actually be a part of russia by then.

I've been to Nome a lot. Drove the road to Teller and the one to Council. There is plenty to explore and see in that area. Haven't been to Unalakleet yet. That's next on my list.

if you go to UNK, try to befriend someone with a boat...there are some roads up into the hills from there, but having a boat is far superior.

In my opinion Barrow is more of a tourist spot for Alaskans, I don't consider it to be the "real" Alaska.
Yes you do have to fly to such a "tiny town", if you want to get your money's worth from visiting Alaska!

Barrow is one of several Alaskan bush locations that are uniquely Alaskan, and yet still accessible to tourists. The same is true of Bethel and Kotzebue.

Spending big bucks getting to Alaska and visiting only the places, such as Anchorage, that are the most similar to locations Outside, is a shame and a waste.
