SPARES!! Just like the old ATV or snowmachine that you don't get rid of. You keep them around for spare parts. I've got 5 old computers. Probably won't ever use them for parts, but I just might.

Firearms are just a little different. It's hard to cobble the pieces together. So that's why you keep spares. I own more than two but less then 50.

Things I like about Alaska:
The Mountains
Snow
Aurora Borealis(though I have never seen one in person, I want to see one)

Things I don't like about Alaska:
High cost of living
Sarah Palin.

Hi group! I'm new to your board here, but I'm here because I'm interested in moving to Alaska. My heart literally aches when I see pics of Alaska. Like I'm meant to be there or something. Anywho, I was wanting to know if you could tell me some of the best places to settle down. I want mountains in my view, wildlife and the northernlights! Thanks in advance for all your responses!

Unless you are independently wealthy your first concern will be employment. What kind of work do you do? Will you have enough money to go back if you don't like it or if things don't pan out. The best thing you can do is visit Alaska especially in the winter to see it for yourself. The view of mountains, wildlife and the northernlights takes in a whole lot of Alaska.

Wanna trade? I'm in Ohio now. Also I am in the healthcare business. I would assume that you need home health aides in Alaska. I am trying to plan a vacation to Alaska in Feb. Where should I go?

What part of Ohio are you in? Home Health Aides are needed in just about every State. The problem is they do not pay well.

Why in the world would anyone feel they should be in Ohio???? Oh, I get it, you were being facetious
Toledo is advertising for CNA's & homehealth aides for under $8 hr, unbelievable!!!!! They have one of the hardest (physically and emotionally) jobs IMO and they want to pay them squat. Sorry, you can tell I've been job hunting all day again today, I'll shut up now

I'm not so sure about the availability of Home Health Aide positions here. I used to do Home Health nursing in PA, and from what I see it's not as popular in this state. Some of that has to do with reimbursement issues.......the rest is really because of where people live. At any given time a major part of the in-patient population at the hospital might live 2 or 3 hours from Anchorage.

We used to get patients by helicopter back at my hospital in PA, but here they come in on jets from remote locations.

There is a extended care facility in Anchorage and a psych hospital that seems to use a lot of aides....

There is a ton of good info on this site....if you're a "go getter" you'll read it all and see what experiences other have had following the dream to get here and pay the bills...
