What's bear spray? Is it like tear gas or something else? Can it be used against people? (Not that I would want to, it's just a question!

Most people up here advise NOT giving the fish away, as it makes bears associate fish and humans (free food). Signs posted along rivers sometimes pass this advice as well. Many of the popular fishing spots have bear encounter advice posted.
