Default Nome + Bulgaria....at least in movies.

O.K. new horror flick coming out The Fourth Kind.
Typical alien abduction yadda yadda yadda.
But this one is set in Nome, or as they call it the "alien
abduction capital of Alaska". My personal favorite is the mountains
ringing the city! Somebody better alert Nome of this, they are in
the wrong place.
On imdb.com says filmed in Bulgaria which is the only place to film
a movie if you want Nome scenery.

Bulgaria.

I guess they didn't do research, didn't care, or thought no one in their audience would notice/care. I'm leaning toward the 3rd guess.

It wouldn't be cheaper to film in Nome than Europe? Odd.

I'm not surprised by this anymore, hollywood always films where they can get the best tax credits while still trying to maintain the integrity of the location.

I want to see this movie but the fact it is based in Nome and "they have glamorous homes with HUGE trees and Mountains" will infuriate me and I doubt I would be able to enjoy it.

This is worse then Northern Exposure! OMG! Which was filmed in Roslin / Cle Elm Washington.

i guess it's to be expected. nome isn't very picturesque by the standards of most movie-goers.

and what's with that 30 days of night movie?
more like 67 days of night, eh floyd?

Huh? What integrity? The only trees in Nome wash up on the beach as driftwood.

I actually thought the funniest part of Barrow in 30 days of night, is... that the town is like 1 road long. Now mind you I haven't been to Barrow, but I *WANT* to... and it looks... SLIGHTLY larger by the pictures I have seen of it.

I think the reason they didn't film in Nome was 1) I believe that this in't a hollywood production I believe it really is a New Zealand based company and they are filming it where they live. Also, all that movie equipment is incredibly heavy!! To ship all that up to Nome, plus actors, plus hotels, it would be very easy to push over budget... which is probably very low from the looks of it

If you gave them your buddy passes and cut them a deal on air freight they could have filmed it in Nome.
