Down here the kids go from house to house around the neighborhood. The little ones take their parents. The older ones usually go by themselves.

how lucky you are to have an area that is safe for children to go house to house....we live rural..an I mean rural...but no one dares take their children house to house now because first no one really knows their neighbors anymore and we have had some real sicko's move in over the years that did really weird things at Halloween that sadly for all ruined it.

blue, are you still in Rhode Island or back in MA? You said you are really rural. How far are you from grocery stores, etc.

So how was everyone's evening? Like I said on the photo thread, we went to Talkeetna for the evening. The view of Denali was beautiful.......the food was great. I think the whole town was out with their kids, and hitting the businesses too. So we sat in a warm restaurant and watched the parade of little ones and their parents come in all dressed up. They definitely had fun in Talkeetna!

Monday thru Friday..city living in Providence RI....weekends home!! It is a 25 mile drive for anything from our house! We will be doing this until May of next year.
there is a small convenience/gas station 1 mile in center of town but...$$$. There is a beautiful 5 acre lake in the center of town with a bar/restaurant but...with the right owner it could be a great place but....
We own 6 acres and the house is smack in the middle...can't see any neighbor house as all our homes sit anywhere from 100 yards to 300 yards back off the dirt road. It is really a beautiful location.
how about you...what is your home area like???

Talkeetna sounds like a great spot to trick-or-treat. Don't you just love Talkeetna?
I wonder if any Anchorage folks had trick-or-treaters in their neighborhood. My neighborhood does not- the first year here we got candy & nobody came. Then we realized all the neighbors keep their lights off!
So how was the trick-or-treat turnout in your corner of Alaska?

We are about 10 minutes outside of the city limit. There's 7 houses on the road. We have a little over an acre as do all the other houses. They're not real close is what I like. It takes us about 10-15 minutes to get to shopping.
Now when we were in Ohio temporarily it took us 30 minutes one-way to get to grocery stores, Walmart, etc, which was a pain, especially if you forgot something you needed. There was a small store about 10 minutes away but they only carried your general food items and they were expensive. I don't like crowded cities but I don't want to live that rural again.
We were really rural down there on a long, winding, country road. There were other houses and most sat on 6 or more acres and we could only see 1 house which was across the road from us. My sister has lived down there for about 16 years. And, let me tell you, talk about weird people.
My sister knows just all of them on the road and it seems more people are building down there so she is thinking of selling and moving to a warmer climate; they hate winter.

Last night we had a total of 4 trick or treaters. Two boys came together and then a bit later 2 girls came together. Was glad to see the parents were driving them around. The winds last night were still really bad; finalllly dying down now, so I figure maybe thats why many kids weren't out. Now I've got alllll this candy......

Is Halloween trick or treating going to be a thing of the past??? what is it with people not wanting children to come to their homes (shutting off light)?? Candy is not that expensive! this seems to be across the country. Here in our county it was ruined years ago with sick people doing really sick things to the children so now we all donate candy to the hardware store and town hall where people bring the children, parade, costume judging etc goes on. Granted where we live the parents have to drive the children as it is rural but I do miss the hobgoblins and spooks coming to my door.
