Currently I live in IN, and I am thinking of moving to Anchorage, AK within the next few years. It will be two adults, one child, and two dogs moving. Any advice on the best way to transport our stuff? our dogs? Advice on renting truck? or flying? How are jobs doing in this economy? Crime rates in Anchorage? I'm studying Psychology and Law Enforcement, are jobs within that category becoming available, or not in need? Anything else noteworthy of explaining I would appreciate. Thanks in advance.

Well two dogs aren't going to be strong enough to pull a sled with your stuff on it. You may want to think about getting a truck instead.

Do a search on others doing this...and you have time ...get rid of all 'stuff' you don't really need or store in case you decide to go back, because either way is expensive...you can ship, pack, get truck, drive, fly, ferry....make sure you have a job before leaving or enough money to support the family, hence go back and get stuff out of storage...you are looking at a lot of money to gamble with no job or income....this is not like a move across the lower 48, but right now that could be debated also...deep thought, planning....

The AK's economy is slowing down, but at least it's somewhat holding or taking its time. Both the city of Anchorage and Fairbanks's predictions is to lose jobs in 2010. I heard on the news that Anchorage lost some jobs a month ago. Whatever you do, make sure that you have jobs before you arrive to Alaska, because the cost of living is quite high.
